Basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, 73, recently penned a powerful op-ed piece in The Hollywood Reporter criticizing the sports and Hollywood worlds for not voicing outrage over recent expressions of antisemitism — including by Black public figures. Abdul-Jabbar called out Ice Cube, DeSean Jackson, and Stephen Jackson, all of whom are Black and have been in the news lately for making antisemitic statements. He also called out Chelsea Handler (Jewish) and Donald Trump. Abdul-Jabbar’s op-ed is linked below.
Quote: “Recent incidents of anti-Semitic tweets and posts from sports and entertainment celebrities are a very troubling omen for the future of the Black Lives Matter movement, but so too is the shocking lack of massive indignation. Given the New Woke-fulness in Hollywood and the sports world, we expected more passionate public outrage. What we got was a shrug of meh-rage.”
