The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is a UN agency that “supports the relief and human development of Palestinian refugees.” As of 2019, more than 5.6 million Palestinians — in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and elsewhere in the Middle East — are registered with UNRWA.
It has long been known that URWA-run schools have promoted hatred of Israel, calling for the destruction of the Jewish State, and the vilifying of Jews in general. The Biden Administration has restored U.S. aid to UNRWA — which was cut off by the Trump Administration — on a pledge from the organization that it will remove such incitement from its schools. Time will tell.
Quote: “The Biden administration moved almost immediately to restart U.S. funding for UNRWA despite underlying concerns about the agency’s radical educational materials — fears that have been raised by U.S. lawmakers on both sides of the aisle in recent years. After aid was resumed earlier this month, UNRWA promised the Biden administration it will root out violence and anti-Semitism, though officials could not explain precisely how the agency would do this after decades of using anti-Israel materials.”
