Jerry Springer (76) hosted his eponymous and raucous tabloid television program, The Jerry Springer Show, from 1991 to 2018. Currently, he presides over a new courtroom program called Judge Jerry. (Springer is also an attorney.) On a more serious and personal note, Springer was featured on the American television genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are? (patterned after a British documentary show of the same name). During his appearance, Springer explored his painful family background in Europe; most of his relatives — including both sets of his grandparents — were murdered in the Holocaust. He also appeared on The Rosie O’Donnell Show and described how his parents managed to flee Germany.
Quote: “The miracle is [my parents] got out on Aug. 7 of 1939. September 1 of 1939, Hitler goes into Poland to start World War II. Gate shut. According to the visa numbers that got them out of Germany, they were the 88th and 89th last people… the last Jews let out of Germany.”
