The Simon Wiesenthal Center was founded in 1977 by Rabbi Marvin Hier (pictured above), who today is its dean. According to the Center’s mission statement, it is “a global human rights organization researching the Holocaust and hate in a historic and contemporary context. The Center confronts anti-Semitism, hate and terrorism, promotes human rights and dignity, stands with Israel, defends the safety of Jews worldwide, and teaches the lessons of the Holocaust for future generations.” The Wiesenthal Center is headquartered in Los Angeles, together with The Museum of Tolerance, the Center’s educational wing.
Quote: “Rest assured that our work is not over because our work has never been only hunting Nazi war criminals. The Simon Wiesenthal Center is an institution, a worldwide institution, engaged in combating anti-Semitism, bigotry, racism. And unfortunately, did we say goodbye to genocide after Hitler died in the bunker? No, we didn’t. So in such a world, I’m afraid there will always be a need for organizations like the Simon Wiesenthal Center.” — Rabbi Marvin Hier
